4 Methods To Preserve Your Pumpkin For The Halloween Season
- Freshly Picked Pumpkin
- Paper Towels
- Petroleum Jelly (like Vasoline)
- Borax Powder Soap
- Peppermint Castile Soap (like Dr. Bronner's)
- Clear Acrylic Spray Paint
Thoroughly dry your pumpkin with a paper towel, and then apply a nice thick coat of petroleum jelly to the entire inside surface. This will help to preserve the color and keep it firm.
Sprinkle a generous amount of borax powder soap on the inside of the pumpkin, and gently rub it into the flesh. This will create a protective crust of borax and help to prevent mold from growing in your pumpkin.
Dry your pumpkin with a paper towel, and then gently smooth a layer of peppermint castile soap to the inside surface. This technique will help to preserve the condition of then inside of the pumpkin.
Pat dry your pumpkin with a paper towel. Spray a layer of clear acrylic paint, allow to dry. Repeat several layers, allowing each layer to dry in between. Please note: you must wait for your pumpkin to dry completely before placing any lights in your pumpkin. This technique creates a nice gloss inside the pumpkin while helping to keep it dry and preserve it longer.
